New Stuff We Like: Too Much Rock's Single Series, Vol. II ; Cowboy Indian Bear's Ruffians ; Kansas Food Truck Fest in LFK

One of the coolest things going in the regional music scene right now is the Singles Series from our friends at Too Much Rock"a collection of 45 RPM singles that marry great songs with great bands all for the love of vinyl. Each old-school two-song single features one unique song paired with one cover chosen by the site. We press 500 limited edition copies and then simply give them away to the bands."

Volume 1 featured the mighty Schwervon!  We wrote about it over here.

Volume 2, which recently appeared, features those little scamps in Rev Gusto delivery yet another blast of summertime poppy goodness with a tune called "Still There" and a cool cover of Graham Parker's "Local Girls."  You can stream "Still There" via the Too Much Rock Singles page and pick up the vinyl if you're lucky enough to score one.  We did!

You should probably also reread our long-ago 2012 interview with Rev Gusto here and recall a much simpler time in LFK, when one could catch a nice rock show at Barnyard Beer.  As we ask on occasion, what the FUCK ever happened to the Barnyard Beer guys and their odd venue?

Today brings a visually lush new Micki Hadley-directed video for Cowboy Indian Bear's song "Ruffians."  It stars BARRR's daughter and we are a little frightened for her in this video as she is being shadowed by a very creepy figure straight out of our most befuddling Lynchian nightmares!

Check it out via Vimeo or on their FB page.

Scenesters like to bitch about the lack of food trucks in Lawrence, but that won't be the case this Saturday evening as the Kansas Food Truck Festival hits ELFK's arts district with a plethora of trucks from KC and elsewhere, plus a beer garden and live music from Psychic Heat, Wells the Traveler, and Truckstop Honeymoon.  Folks, it's shaping up to be one of the biggest cultural events in ELFK history.  There are 500+ damn guests listed as attending this event:  check it out via FB here.  Will it be an epic success or a frustrating chaotic mess in which you have to wait two hours to eat a frog leg taco?  Either way, you'll want to find out.  We plan to be in line by sunrise on Saturday morning at the latest.
