Chip: "This is my second favorite KU calendar. The first, of course, is the Women of KU calendar, which features hot coeds. Mine usually gets so sticky by February that I can never even see the rest of the months. The Women of Distinction ladies are not as hot, but I'd still bone them, because some of them are in important positions and might help me advance my career. It's all about networking, these days."
Richard: "In other calendar-related news, I'm posing this year in Larryville's Anarchists Exposed calendar, which allows both ladies and dudes. It should be a very tasteful spread."

"Not everyone who rides the bus is crazy / But when a crazy person has to go somewhere, they take the bus." --song lyrics from someone whose name I can't find
With the fate of Larryville's public transit system (The T) now in the hands of voters come November (via two sales tax proposals), concerned local citizens have formed a coalition called "Yes For Transit," which plans to launch a ten-week onslaught to rally support for their beloved T.
Chip: "The T is a traveling hobo service. The buses smell like urine and broken dreams. Vote no."
Richard: "I wish this group had a catchier name, something like "Free the T," which doesn't make much sense but at least sounds important."

While I have nothing against lauding women who have distinguished themselves in various academic endeavors here at KU, it seems to me that the point of a visual calendar is to give the eyes some visual stimulation ON TOP of letting the viewer know what day it is. Frankly, the pictures in the past calendars have been downright boring. Is it because they DON'T objectify women? No. It's because they are of normal, non-descript people, posing awkwardly, in normal, non-descript places. Just not calendar material.
I beg to differ, Chip. I used to ride the T all the time, and it was quite comfortable and smelled fine (despite the undeniable presence of crazy people). The KU bus system, on the other hand, is another story...
Wow, this place is suddenly full of real opinions about real issues!
I'm pro-T as well, but my bet is that the good citizens of Larryville will say no to a tiny sales-tax. Sometimes it's a good thing that Chip doesn't vote.
This gem was in the LJWorld a few years back, from an interview with people on the T:
"When I move to any city, the first thing I find is a church and the second thing is a liquor store."
I believe Chip's statement about "urine and broken dreams" echoes the quotation above.
I'm confused...why is Lawrence cutting public transportation when many other cities are seeing a higher demand for such services?
Or is this just another instance of an environmentally progressive city, so long as it isn't too inconvenient or unhip (like riding the bus...is riding the bus cool?)?
Of course, I also just spent the weekend in LA, and saw maybe six people on the 100 busses that drove by (that's six people total). Riding the bus there is definitely not cool.
I guess the argument goes that if very few people are on the buses, then it's NOT environmentally progressive just to have huge empty buses driving around. I don't know if that argument is true to the data, just saying...
Yeah, the system is bankrupt and the buses are largely empty.
But it's not necessarily being cut. If the taxes pass, the T may remain.
Ok, when in vain-glorious FUCK, did this shit counter begin to become bastion of real opinions and liberal-social thought (of the non-dicking hotties kind)?
I demand a return to exploitation, blacksploitation and chicksploitation or I will pull this website down!

Fine...did I mention that two of the beauties who work down at the Yacht Club also happen to be Women of KU...the hot, scantily clad kind!

How many of the calendar ladies work at Q's and how many at Jefferson's? This might be a way of judging Chip's "hotness" rankings! Find this out, Cl.thier (while I peruse the website again).
A return to social consciousness - it's not the logic of not running empty busses that I'm critiquing. That I get. It's the people who say they are progressive and then don't use things like public transportation. Of course, I never took the T, so perhaps I'm being hypocritical.
No one needs to respond to that. Instead I'll leave a comment about the calendar. How awesome is it that one of the girls is a metalworking major? I'm not even entirely sure what that is, but it sounds dangerous. Think about that, boys (and girls).
Perhaps, that metalworking major is a hot, welding, maniacal dancer who will eventually go on to make softcore "dramas" about what it's like to be a hot, older lesbian in Los Angeles!
It means she dances around a metal pole at the Dirty Bird!
